History
WMC Kerkrade was founded in 1949, when two harmony bands from Kerkrade invited the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band from Yorkshire to come over for a concert.
Successful:
The concert became a huge success and the idea arose to organise an international festival based in Kerkrade dedicated to both amateur and professional bands and orchestras. The goal: International fraternization through music.
Fraternization:
The international fraternization and the international composition of the working population in the Limburg (coal)mining areas, in combination with highly developed amateur music turned out to be the perfect breeding ground for this unique initiative.
Spectacular:
Throughout the years WMC Kerkrade has become a synonym for a spectacular music festival of the highest quality, which attracts approximately 350.000 visitors and 18.000 musician each edition.
